Celebrate Earth Futures! Join us October 4th for art, cider, donuts & hayrides as we honor fellows’ visions for a brighter future.
This writing workshop is led by artists Hadassah Greensky and Maya Davis. Participants will reflect on the Anishinaabe concept Mino Bimaadiziwin: Leading A Good Life. Guided by the sculpture’s poetic cycle of rainfall and return, we will explore our personal and collective relationships to water, with particular attention to the histories of Black and Indigenous access, dispossession, and ongoing reclamation along the Rouge. What stories does the river hold? Whose voices has it carried, and whose have been silenced? What does it mean to listen deeply to water in a city where clean access is still unequally distributed?

Eco-Artist Workshop with Huron-Clinton Metroparks and Maya Davis
Date & Time: Saturday, July 12, 2025,1-3pm
At this workshop, participants will make rain chains with artist, Maya Davis and learn about stormwater management tools and techniques for mitigating flooding at home with Huron-Clinton Metroparks. All are welcome, 10+ recommended.

Enjoy storytelling with Shannon Cason by the fire, an open mic session where you can share what legacy means to you, and take part in the legacy scavenger hunt. Celebrate the installation opening of “New Forest, Ancient Thrones” by Sidewalk Detroit’s artist-in-residence Jordan Weber, a New York-based regenerative land sculptor and activist who works at the intersection of social justice and environmental apartheid through grassroots collaboration in industrial polluted neighborhoods. Festivities will commence starting at 2pm with an unveiling ceremony, live music, performances, and remarks by Jordan Weber, Sidewalk Detroit, and Canfield Consortium.“NewForest, Ancient Thrones” is a new permanent sculpture that honors the resiliency of the East Canfield neighborhood and the dedication of its residents to continue the fight against environmental racism and the climate crisis.

Join Sidewalk Detroit to celebrate Earth Day by showing the Rouge River a little love! Adult participants will have the option to wade into the river (waders provided) to pull out trash, and volunteers of all ages will help haul the trash to the road and begin cleaning it for an exciting community-built art installation led by local artist Halima Cassells (more details on Earth Week and this Eco Artist Residency to come!) In case of rain, this event date will move to May 4, 10am-2pm.
